Your journal. Your device. Your privacy.

Your words never leave your device

Penlock is built on one principle: your journal is yours alone. No accounts, no syncing, and nothing you write ever leaves your device.

• On-device only

Everything is stored locally on your phone.

• No cloud sync

Your entries are never uploaded anywhere. There are no servers to breach.

• No tracking

No analytics, no ads, no third-party trackers. Only anonymous crash reports, which never include your writing.

• Biometric lock

Protect your journal with Face ID or Touch ID. Your biometrics stay in Apple’s Secure Enclave.

Everything you need, nothing you don’t

Thoughtful tools for your journaling practice, from a blank page to a year of memories.

• Journaling Suggestions

Start from your day. Pick a photo, place, workout, or song from Apple’s Journaling Suggestions. Penlock only sees what you choose.

• Widgets

Keep your writing streak on your Home Screen or Lock Screen, and see On This Day memories at a glance.

• On This Day

Revisit what you wrote on this day in past years, from the app or a widget.

• Streaks

Build a daily writing habit with streak tracking and gentle daily reminders.

• Share Cards

Celebrate a streak or your Year in Penlock with a card to share. Cards show your numbers, never your words.

• Writing Starters

Never face a blank page. Use built-in starters for gratitude, reflection, and goals, or write your own.

• Mood Tracking

Log how you feel with each entry. Spot patterns and understand yourself better.

• Tags & Search

Organize entries with colored tags, and find any thought in seconds with full-text search.

• Photos & Export

Attach up to 10 photos to an entry, and export your journal to Markdown anytime. Your data stays yours.

• Made for iPhone Duo

Folded or open, upright or sideways, Penlock adapts to every screen, including landscape on any iPhone.

• Timeline

Browse every entry by date on a calendar, with a dot on each day you wrote.
